Iraqis resist but baghdad in coalition sights

IS seized a mosque in Iraq's Anbar province on Monday, a day after it struck another Islamic State group stronghold there, killing six people, including three civilians, officials said.

The fighting comes after Iraqi forces have made advances in both areas, capturing the village of Al-Asad last week and pushing on to the town of Nabi Saleh in the north.

Iraqi troops have since advanced in three other fronts: south of Anbar city from the border with Syria to the west, where the main road between Baghdad and the capital passes by the small town of Hawija and the village of Rawa; south, across the Tigris river from the northern city of Tikrit to the north; and in the centre, west of Mosul.

Al-Mayadeen TV, a satellite channel of Anbar government television, said the two suicide car bombs were detonated on Sunday evening on bridges across the Tigris at Sohara in the al-Anbar province, about 70km (50 miles) north-east of Baghdad.

In the latest suicide bombing that struck a mosque in the city centre, an attacker targeted a car on a street near the southern entrances of the al-Mayadeen TV channel building and tried to ignite it, it said.

"He then moved towards the al-Mayadeen mosque and tried to burn the building," it said.

Al-Mayadeen said that a police officer in the area arrived to take a "self-defence" course on Sunday.

One witness said it was too early to tell whether the bomber was radicalised in Iraq or came here to join a fighting group there.

The attack comes after a three-day period of heavy fighting between the Iraqi army and IS in northern Anbar province.

On Monday, the insurgents launched a second major offensive on Hawija, cutting off a major supply route into Baghdad as it tried to push back the army and capture the town.

It was not clear if the town was under IS control, but a local official said that its defenders were losing patience with IS's long battle for control of northern Iraq, which they say has caused its decline into chaos and a growing exodus of the population.

"There has been an increase in the presence of the enemy in Hawija in the last few days and the presence of IS also."

Iraqi forces launched a counterattack to cut off a route into the town on Friday, forcing the IS affiliate to flee across the river into the Euphrates valley to the east of the city.

The militant group has in recent weeks announced plans to establish an Islamic caliphate as it loses territory in Iraq and Syria, as well as elsewhere in th

Sport in ninety seconds, but there was also another benefit to working out: you got to see the entire floor to a mirror of yourself. You could see your physique on the floor.

There were no stairs on the floor but the barbell could be brought up, back to floor, and you could train on it. It was a more physical way to go.

You're not just going to hit, but you have to be able to keep coming at those barbells. That was the philosophy: to keep coming at the weights.

Q. Did you go to that much weight and did it get comfortable?

A. No, I never liked that. I was like, "Why would I do that?" I'd done the same thing in college. You're not gonna go to that much weight, but then the first few sets it would feel better than you expected it to. It became a habit.

I used to be very concerned if I didn't push, or if I got frustrated, and I'd blame it on the barbells. I had an unhealthy fear of the barbell. You can be in control of your technique.

Q. What has it been like training with Louie Simmons?

A. He's a phenomenal coach. He can do it with anybody. People don't think he's as good as he should be, but he's got a high end of technique, and when he's working with you, his mind goes to the weight.

If you want it, he'll get it.

One of the benefits of being able to do it with Louie is he'll really go out of his way to be objective and objective in that room. He wants to help you with every part of the barbell program. You'll always get what you need in your life in training, not just the first weight, as you've got the barbells.

At his gym, he does the bodybuilding portion, and if you're on one side, he doesn't really let you do that. All you're doing is lifting weights on the other side, but he will really talk you through it. He knows where to place weight, where to start to build up, when to slow it down, what the proper technique is, and so forth.

Q. You're training on Barbell Island right now. Is it a little bit like a park, is it more like a backyard for the family? What is the purpose of doing a little golf?

A. This is my favorite kind of training place to go and train. You don't see everybody in training here. We do have some guys there that may have some expertise, but most of the guys we go t
